We need to gather information about exactly what you want - starting with all the same information we'd need if you were purchasing one of our other catalog racks. Since customs are based on our catalog racks you can use those as a reference for the style and type of add-on options available, including prices. To get a price quote for a custom rack with your logo or other artwork, please complete the request form with as much information and detail possible. From that we can work up an estimated price for you.
About Custom Headache Racks by Spyder Industries
Some options such as flags, outdoor scenes, military themed artwork, etc. may not appear on the website but you'll find them in our semi-custom build-a-rack series. If you've seen examples on our Facebook page or another source and cannot find them here, please visit our custom logo rack page and attach a screen capture or reference photo to the request form found there. If you have any other special requests, be sure to add it to the form.
Unless you already have or plan to use a tonneau cover, we always recommend our Heavy Duty bed rails which are also compatible with tool boxes - even if you don't plan on using a tool box.
We need to see your existing logo so we can determine how it will translate to cut metal and powder coat colors. There is a space provided on the request form to attach files. Most graphic file formats are acceptable. If the quality or resolution is too low we will need something better at the formal design stage.
For legal reasons, we cannot do trademarked logos (brands, sports teams).
Sorry, we're not in the graphic design business. If you want us to create artwork or a logo from scratch, that will take time charged at an hourly rate.
Animals, scenes, or any other art you provide can be added either over a background pattern or welded into the frame as the background. Layers that are riveted to an underlying layer can be powder coated a different color. Elements that are welded into the frame generally must be the same color as the rest of the rack.
When providing your own art, think in terms of silhouettes. If we don't have the art, then do a web search for a silhouette version - for example: 'buffalo silhouette'.
Yes. While our quotes are free, there is a charge for the formal design process. Once you receive a quote and decide to proceed, a $200 deposit is required to start the formal design process. The deposit is applied toward your balance. During that process our CNC designer will take your logo and determine the best way to render it in cut metal, then program that into a computer. Proofs of your custom rack with all accessories are also generated and sent to you for review and approval.
Most graphic file formats are okay as long as it is high quality, high resolution. A low quality .jpg file won't cut it. Ideally, when the time comes to do your formal design, you can provide us with an .AI or .EPS or in some cases .PDF file to work with. These are known as vector formats and allow us to scale your artwork to any size needed without loss of quality or extra, time consuming work. Your graphic designer or printer may be able to help provide us with a file.
Logos are created entirely from layers of cut steel (no vinyl stickers used). Each layer is powder coated a different color and the layers creatively stacked and riveted to the headache rack to create the effect.
Powder coat is not a paint so there are no paint codes. Instead, the powder coat industry uses a system of RAL numbers. You may choose any of the colors we stock by Cardinal or special order (at a higher cost) colors from Prismatic Powders. While we can offer suggestions on powder coat colors that may closely match the colors in your logo or artwork, you are ultimately responsible for the final choice and approval.
We cannot do color gradients in powder coat.
The answer boils down to extra time, labor, materials, and technology. A CNC designer takes your logo and determines the best way to render it in cut metal, then programs that into a computer. Proofs of your custom rack with all accessories are generated for your approval. Material is setup and CNC cut. Fabricators clean up and prepare each layer, pre-fit, and drill everything for assembly later. After sandblasting, in addition to the headache rack, all layers are individually primed and powder coated. Rivets are powder coated to match. During final assembly an artisan re-fits and rivets all of the layers together. In our experience, multi-layer custom logos or artwork typically adds $350-$750 to the overall cost of a headache rack with $600, the average.
